Coronavirus: No Traffic Jam on Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge

Wuhan seemed to have been pressed with the “pause button”, and the bustling crowd and whistle of car horns disappeared overnight. Even the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, which used to pass by restricting motor vehicle numbers, was left so alone by the epidemic.

At 6 o’clock in the evening, it should have been the evening rush hour, but only 20 cars passed on the two-directions four-lanes of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge every minute. The slogan “Not urgently needed for epidemic prevention, don’t drive out” flashed at the bridge junction.

The traffic police who have worked here for many years sighed, never seen such an empty Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, and even began to miss the lively appearance of traffic jams. In the past, a large number of tourists took pictures every day, and even some traffic accidents occurred, very lively.

The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, completed in 1957, was the first railway and highway bridge on the Yangtze River.

Compared to the Yellow Crane Tower, which was “reconstructed” in 1985, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, completed in 1957, has witnessed the ups and downs of Jiangcheng and is the real city card of Wuhan. Photography enthusiasts carry the professional camera and walk up the bridge, south to Wuchang, take street views on Huanghelou; north to Hanyang, keep orange-red shadows of Yingwuzhou Bridge.

In fact, only Wuhan is called “Jiangcheng” of the 39 cities along the Yangtze River in China. The intersection of the Yangtze River and Hanshui River divides Wuhan into Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang towns, facing each other across the river. Linking the three towns of Wuhan and opening the north-south artery between the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway are important functions of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge.

At that time, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge was built for the strength of the country. The steel truss of this bridge also included the hard work of engineering technicians in Beijing, Sichuan mechanics, and Henan auxiliary workers. More than sixty years later, although people were a little overwhelmed when faced with the unknown virus, in the face of the epidemic, the friendship between all parts in China had still remained, unchanged forever.
